Arrival In The Underkeep Village

Upon entering Underkeep Village, take your time to survey the area. You’ll come across useful buildings including the Crooked Wing tavern where you can take a break after fighting through the Fangroot Forest. It’s a cozy spot that can recharge your party’s strength.

Look for a blacksmith at the forge where you can stock up on weapons. You’ll also find Khelebar who sells potions—make sure to grab a few that can help in tight spots. One NPC to keep an eye on is the mayor, as he provides various quests, often pointing towards the mysterious dwarven expedition that delves into the Duskhollow Woods.

If you found Jacob’s letter earlier, show it to Khelebar. He’ll send you on a mission to locate Jacob at the Cemetery. This quest ties into larger story elements and helps flesh out the game world.

The Cemetery awaits you south of Underkeep Village, and before venturing there, it’s imperative to pick up a shovel found in the southern part of town, close to the graves. This tool allows you to dig up buried items that can enhance your experience.

Keep exploring the cemetery and its surroundings, as you can always retreat back to the village for healing and resupplying. The enemies in this area are formidable, so don’t hesitate to head back if your health is dwindling.

Search for the path leading to the Crimson Sleeper’s mausoleum while also trying to locate traces of Jacob. You’ll encounter a hidden spot among the trees that leads you to valuable items, so be sure to investigate thoroughly.

To The Underkeep Cemetery

At one altar, read the riddle: “Flip me once, and count your sins – the gate will open if fate wins.” This altar, located to the right of the entrance, hints at the entrance to the secret pathway. Follow it to avoid a horde of enemies.

Inside the mausoleum, you’ll find items and clues. There’s a torch near a dead-end corridor; interact with it to open a pathway deeper into the mausoleum.

Check out a corridor covered in cobwebs. Inside, you’ll face several spiders. After you clear them out, search for a hidden room; interact with the flag near the locked gate to find a small button that opens the path to a scroll of binding. This scroll can be vital for later encounters.

The Skeleton King looms here too, but it’s wise to leave that battle for later. Focus on clearing out the room and then look for the ritual altar in the hidden section. Feel free to attempt the ritual, but be prepared to face Ixarion afterward.

Infiltrating The Mausoleum

After some rest, you can continue your battle against the Skeleton King. Importantly, it won’t regenerate HP while you’re inside the room, allowing you to finish him off once you’re ready.

Upon descending the stairs after defeating the Skeleton King, you’ll reach the Cells of the Forgotten. Expect to encounter many Crimson Sleepers in this stage as well.

There are three golden keyholes in this region; inserting a key corresponding to each of the mages previously defeated unlocks the next area.

Once you extinguish the braziers, bear down on Thalric – he won’t hold much health without the lit braziers aiding him. Inside his chamber, you’ll find the Wolf Queen’s head, a key item for the next phase of your adventure.

Afterwards, rescue Jacob from his bindings. Once freed, he provides valuable insight into the Source and the remaining mages.

Upon reaching the third level, you’ll confront Zerethic, the Heart Eater. Your goal is to interact with his coffins; each one summons an undead enemy to defeat before proceeding.

Once all coffins are cleared, face Zerethic directly to secure the final key. This allows access to the next region, the Chambers of the Endless Sleep.

Only light the first brazier upon entering and the four in a square in front of the iron door to open it. Make sure no other braziers are lit.

Once through, you’ll reach the Source, which summons Blood Golems instantly. After defeating them, interact with the Source to choose its fate—ending its suffering grants you a Runic Segment Key.

This wraps up Part 2 of the Underkeep adventure. There’s plenty more to explore, so prepare for what lies ahead!

Skeleton King

When you take down Maltherion, you’ll be rewarded with a shiny golden key. With that key in your inventory, you can make your way to the Skeleton King’s chamber. It’s a big step, so prepare yourself for the adventure ahead!

Facing the Skeleton King is completely your choice; you can actually bypass this encounter altogether! If you’re not in the mood for a fight, just make a quick dash to the gate on the opposite side and continue your journey without getting involved. It’s a great way to conserve your resources!

Even though battling the Skeleton King is optional, it could be worth your while for the awesome sword you can snag from him. A smart strategy here is to chip away at its health until it’s low. If your team starts to feel the pressure, don’t hesitate to retreat to the gate and jump to the next stage for some breathing room.

Once you retreat, feel free to take all the time you need to rest up before heading back into the fray. When you go through the gate again, you’ll find yourself ready to tackle the Skeleton King without any worries about him regenerating health while you’re in another room. This can turn the tide in your favor!

Cells Of The Forgotten

When you make your way down the stairs into the Skeleton King’s chamber, you’ll find yourself stepping into the second level of this adventure. Prepare yourself as you enter a room filled with several Crimson Sleepers, who might be looking to catch you off guard. But that’s not the only option here; there’s also a pathway that leads to an intriguing 3-flame puzzle just waiting for your clever touch.

Keep your eyes peeled, and as you wander around, you’ll stumble across an intriguing puzzle featuring three flames, each a different color. It’s your job to figure out which one is the correct choice to unlock the gate ahead. To solve it, interact with the blue flame during this puzzle, and you’ll see the path magically open before you!

Thanks to the blue flame unlocking the way, you’re now heading towards the Cells of the Forgotten. Here, you will discover three golden keyholes neatly positioned in this eerie area. To progress, you need to find a key from each of the three mages, so keep your wits about you as you venture forth!

Don’t forget, there’s a mage lurking in every stage of this journey. With your victory over Maltherion under your belt, that means you’ve got just two more mages left to contend with, including the one you’ll find right here in this part of the game. So gear up — you’re almost there!

Thalric, The Undying Flame, And The Head Of The Wolf Queen

As you get closer to the three keyholes, watch for a pathway that leads to a chamber where you’ll face off against Thalric, the Undying Flame. This encounter is going to be a real test of your skills, so prepare yourself for a fiery battle ahead!

Now, here’s the twist with this boss fight: you’ve got to ignite three braziers that are situated in each corner of the room, and they all need to be lit with green flames. So strategize your movements well, as lighting those braziers will be key to unleashing your full potential in this intense matchup.

Speed is of the essence here since Thalric is hot on your heels. Right at the start, you’ll notice that some objects are blocking the way in front of various braziers. Use your melee attacks to smash those pesky barriers first!

After you’ve successfully extinguished all four braziers, it’s time to face Thalric directly. Don’t fret too much—without his tricks, he doesn’t have a ton of HP. Once you engage him in battle, be sure to check out the chest in his chamber afterward; that’s where you’ll find the Wolf Queen’s head. This is a crucial key item, so make sure you snag it!

This level also has a friendly face—Jacob! You’ll find him tied up, but don’t worry. Once you release him from his binds, he’s going to be grateful, and you can head back to Khelebar afterward to collect your well-deserved reward.

After Jacob is free, he’ll fill you in on important details about the Source and the mages. He’ll be on his way soon, but that’s your cue to keep pushing forward on your adventure!

Nearing the end of this area, there’s an intriguing puzzle waiting for you involving multiple lit braziers that you simply can’t douse. Get ready to think!

Once you step into the puzzle room, you’ll need to dodge the flames as you make your way to the exit door. Take your time—carefully step on each tile and rotate your camera to get a good sense of the environment. Find the path where there are no flames blocking your way and continue onward until you reach the door. Stay sharp!

Zerethic, The Heart Eater

Once you’ve skillfully sidestepped all those glowing braziers and made your way up the stairs, you’re primed to delve into the third level. The path ahead is quite simple and will lead you directly to confront the third wizard, Zerethic, also known as the Heart Eater. Ready yourself for an intense encounter!

Zerethic is quite the formidable foe, nestled among a collection of coffins filled with some eerily strange liquid. The real kicker? Every time you deal damage to him, he instantly starts to regenerate his health. This mechanic means you’ll need a solid strategy to outsmart him!

To bring Zerethic down, you’ll need to engage with each of the coffins in his lair. Interacting with them will summon an undead creature that you must defeat. Keep going until you’ve dealt with all of the coffins; only then will you be ready to turn your attention back to Zerethic for the final showdown.

Once you conquer Zerethic, you’ll be rewarded with the final key, a critical piece for your adventure. Make your way back to the room with the three golden keyholes located inside the Cells of the Forgotten; this will allow you to unlock a route leading to the mysterious Chambers of the Endless Sleep.

Chambers Of The Endless Sleep

As you step into this new area, you’ll find it essential to stay on the marked path, which will take you straight to a massive hall filled with myriad braziers arranged in some odd patterns. It’s a sight to behold, but be ready for action!

On the opposite side, you’ll come across some intriguing hints. It appears that lighting the lone brazier is key, and there’s a cryptic note mentioning that four wardens are standing guard in complete silence. Get ready to decipher this mystery as you progress!

When you step into this hall for the first time, your mission is to light up that very first brazier right by the entrance. Don’t stop there—make sure you also illuminate the four braziers that are arranged in a square right in front of the imposing iron door awaiting you.

Keep your focus on just lighting these five specific braziers. Once you’ve done this, the gate should swing open to let you through. If that doesn’t happen, double-check that no other braziers have been ignited, as that could be the key to your success!

The Source

As you journey onward, you’ll eventually encounter the Source. However, be prepared for quite a showdown, as it summons multiple Blood Golems all at once to challenge you.

Your task here is to take down every last one of those Golems. Once you’ve prevailed in battle, make your way over to the Source and interact with it. You’ll face a choice: either let it live or end its existence. I opted to end its suffering, and doing so granted me the first Runic Segment Key from the chest located in the room.

In the Source’s chamber, you’ll find a handy switch cleverly hidden behind one of the flags. This allows you to quickly return to the entrance. From there, feel free to head back to Underkeep Village to regroup and gear up for your next adventure. Your next destination will be heading North toward the Caerlin Woods.

And that wraps up Part 2 of our Underkeep walkthrough—hope you found it helpful for your quest!
