Starting your journey in RetroSpace means waking up on the desolate Aurora 5, a space station hanging on the edge of a black hole. Getting your bearings quickly is vital, as resources are scarce and the environment is actively trying to kill you.
I found the early stages quite disorienting because everything looks so similar, so make sure you don’t miss the small items like credits or ammo tucked in corners. It is easy to breeze past essential gear and regret it once the hazards start piling up.
Before you commit to your difficulty setting, double-check it because there is no way to swap it later. Take a second to scan the initial Stasis Chamber for every scrap and supply before moving into the corridors, as they will save you a lot of headache shortly after.
RetroSpace throws you straight into the strange and dangerous world of Aurora 5, a space station caught in the grip of a black hole. In this opening section, you will wake up in a Stasis Chamber and begin exploring the station, gathering useful supplies, uncovering clues about what happened, and restoring power to key systems. Take your time searching the early areas, as there are plenty of useful items, credits, ammo, and logs to find along the way.
If you want to learn more about the game, check the official database or local terminals found throughout the station.
Ensure you keep a close eye on the surroundings as you move through these early rooms to avoid missing critical progression items.

Wake Up in the Stasis Chamber
After selecting your difficulty, the game begins with an introductory cutscene. You will wake up in the Stasis Chamber; head up the ramp on the left to locate a Power Wrench resting on your left.
Gather Supplies and Explore the Starting Area
Turn back toward the table to grab a Rocket Doughnut, a Crunchy bar, and a Flashlight. These items provide essential early-game utility for navigating the dim corridors.
Look near the poster to collect some Credits. Don’t forget to check the storage chest located to the left of the room’s exit, as it contains extra ammo.
Inside a crate further to the left, you can find Logan’s Beer. Once you open the door, Amira will warn you about a gas leak; look for another doughnut in the nearby trashcan and two bottles of water next to the terminal.
Investigate the Stasis Pods
Use the terminal nearby to open all Pod sections to see what information they yield.
You will see the casualty count rise as you investigate. Walk up the ramp on the left and collect Scrap from the cryo chamber, then repeat this for the other chambers to ensure you do not miss any Credits or the A.U.C.S Helmet found on the left near the top.
After interacting with the environment, your HUD will finally initialize.
Find Out What Happened
Continue ascending the ramp, but keep your eyes peeled for a Valve lying on the floor to the left.
Shift the large box to the left to find Scrap tucked underneath. Grab the audio log located on the seat to the right before proceeding.
Clear the Fire and Search the Lower Area
Pick up the Fire Extinguisher from the wall near the seat. Head right toward the fire blocking your path and use the extinguisher to clear the debris.
Extinguishing the flames lets you collect the Scrap on the floor. Locate the hatch on the floor near the initial gas leak location to move deeper into the station.
Collect the Ammo you find along the path, then crouch to move through the low opening on the left. Explore this area to find corpses and an unlocked hatch that leads to the next section.
Passing through that door advances the story. Head to the back of the room to claim a Universe Cleaner sitting near the medical console.
Restore Power to the Terminal
The console is currently unpowered. Equip the Universe Cleaner and use its alternate fire mode to create a puddle connecting the two water patches near the electrical boxes.
Once the puddles bridge the gap, activate the rear electrical box to restore the circuit, but stay clear of the water while you do it.
Find the Janitor Closet Code
The terminal is now active but requires a password. Look for a glowing green audio log near the base of the ramp with the ceiling-mounted gun.
Head up the ramp and grab the Medkit from the seating area near the projector. Use the shop terminal to listen to the audio file containing the code 0937 for the Janitor Closet, then use the Biometric Scanner to unlock lockers and find the code 1477 on a sticky note.
Access the blood-stained terminal at the back and input the code 1477 to perform a security override. Loot the area for food, then return to the Janitor Closet and enter 0937 to retrieve a Handgun , Ammo , and another audio log.
Access the bloody terminal at the back now. Hit security override and enter the code 1477. Go near the projector and loot the area for food items. Next, head back down to the Janitor’s closet and enter the code 0937. Pick up the Audio log from the table, and open the chest at the back for a handgun and ammo.
Take a moment to clear out any remaining lockers you find in this vicinity for extra supplies.
Enter the Stasis Distribution Nexus Plaza
Head back up the ramp and enter the door labeled Stasis Distribution Nexus Plaza. Check the toilet before moving down the ramp where you will see a Heal-o-Dome.
Turn right into the conveyor belt area and walk past the broken elevator. Climb down the ladder, enter the small crawlspace, and destroy the grill to proceed.
With your Power Wrench equipped, strike the generator to power it up and continue your exploration.
