Deadlock features a flexible chat wheel that lets you signal your intentions quickly, but the default menu only scratches the surface. You can actually assign any specific Phrase ID to your wheel using the console to get access to communication options most players miss.
It feels a lot smoother when you have the exact phrases you need right at your thumb, rather than digging through submenus during a hectic firefight. I’ve found that setting up your own layout is one of the easiest ways to improve coordination without needing a microphone.
Before you dive into the commands, make sure you have your desired ID list handy and check that your F7 key is correctly bound to open the developer console.
The wheel is divided into 8 slots, which are indexed from 0 to 7. Based on build 6731, you can map any of these identifiers to customize your callouts exactly how you like them.
How to Change Deadlock Chatwheel Phrases
Start by hitting F7 to bring up the console overlay.
Type the following syntax to assign a phrase to a specific location:
ping_wheel_phrase_
Slot numbers begin at 0 at the top position and proceed clockwise until they end at 7.
If you want to set Going to farm (ID 61) as your top slot, you would input this command:
ping_wheel_phrase_0 61
To verify which phrase is currently active in a specific slot, just type the command followed by the slot number and skip the ID.
For example, to check slot 0:
ping_wheel_phrase_0
The game automatically remembers these configurations, so you won’t need to re-enter them after you close and restart Deadlock.
