The path to Lorade Castle in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is obstructed by a formidable wall of ice, making your journey daunting but rewarding. You’ll need to complete several side quests to gather what you need to break through. Be ready for fierce battles and clever puzzles as you delve into this chilling adventure.
The experience can be overwhelming—get stuck doing side quests, and you might find yourself short on supplies. I learned the hard way how crucial those supplies can be. Before diving into the ice challenges, ensure you stock up on healing items and elixirs.
A key early move is to ensure you’ve unlocked the necessary quests and helpful companions like Eir. Her assistance can turn the tide against tough foes, especially in the biting cold.
First, your journey leads to the Sealed Study that indicates the next steps. However, once at Lorade Castle, a massive ice wall will bar your entry. You’ll need to find a solution to overcome this obstacle through resourcefulness and combat.
- Find a path leading east through the stronghold.
- Assist Eir in getting to the ice wall.
- Complete the Truant Soldier side quest.
- Complete the Snatching-Beast side quest.
- Aid Eir in her search for a Gagana.
- Use the stronghold’s Ballista to destroy the ice wall.
- Head to Lorade Castle.
- Decide the fate of Sir Rovall’s Corpse.
- Ask the Sphinx for insights on saving Rovall.
Finding a path east through the stronghold is your priority. The rubble has been cleared from the area where you previously battled the Fallen Dragon. Go back to where that fight happened and you can now access the door to the east.
Once through, members of the commission will be there, including Chrona. She’ll express concern about Amos, a new recruit who has gone missing. Your task is to locate him.
You’ll need to push through the eastern door and meet more members of the commission. Wash will ask for your assistance as their supplies have been stolen by a Snowfoot. Without these supplies, survival is bleak.
To make it to the snowfield, you’ll have to take an elevator from the top of the area. This will unlock access to the entire eastern section of Norgan.
Climb up the stairs to the top. The elevator is on your right, and straight ahead, you’ll spot a ballista. Keep this location in mind; you’ll need it later.
Interact with the lever to call the elevator, giving it time to arrive as enemies, specifically ghouls, will swarm you. They’re easy to manage if you’re prepared.
Wash adds that to reach the snowfield, you need to take the elevator at the top and use it to access the area, which will unlock access to the entire eastern section of Norgan.
Climb the stairs and make your way to the top. To your right, you will see the elevator Wash mentioned, and if you go straight ahead, you will find a ballista. Remember its location because we’ll need it later.
Call the elevator by interacting with the lever. The lift will take its time to arrive, and enemies will spawn around you. They are just small ghouls, so they should be manageable.
Help Eir Get To The Ice Wall
After the elevator ride, unlock the gate ahead and help Eir fend off nearby enemies. Together, you’ll clear the area, and then she will guide you to the ice wall entrance.
Once at the ice wall, Eir will share her knowledge of the Gagana, a rare fiery beast whose feather can melt the ice. She’ll express that she can’t handle the beast alone and seeks your assistance.
When prompted, choose to take more time before heading off to find the Gagana; this gives you the chance to finish side quests first.
Eir will accompany you during this time, meaning you won’t be alone in battle, which is a relief as she can be quite useful.
As you’re navigating the snowfield, keep an eye out for whiteouts. They occur frequently and can obscure your vision, so find a camp when it happens to wait out the storm.
Now, jump into the Truant Soldier side quest to find Amos, using the ice wall location as your base.
In addition, the snowfield is known for its whiteouts, which happen more often than you might think. When you encounter a whiteout, try to find a nearby camp and wait for the weather to settle so you can explore more easily.
The Truant Soldier Side Quest
Your search for Amos begins just behind the ice wall. Look for a rope to climb that will lead you directly to him.
Help him defeat nearby enemies, and he’ll show his gratitude, agreeing to head back to the camp now that he’s safe.
After ensuring Amos made it back, use your Eternal Ferrystone to return to Northwall Campground and check in with him for your reward of 25,000 Gold.
Next up is the Snatching-Beast side quest to recover supplies from the Snowfoot. It retreated to its lair southeast of the Mountain Stronghold.
Once you’re in the right area, follow the trail of dropped loot to locate the lair of the Snatching Beast.
The Arisen needs to make sure that Amos made it back to camp alive, so use your Eternal Ferrystone to travel to Northwall Campground.
Head inside the cave, and you will find him standing here. He will thank you once again for your help and reward you with 25,000 Gold.
The Snatching-Beast Side Quest
Head into the cave to find the scattered supplies. You’ll discover two items at the bottom: one behind some boxes and another on a rock ledge.
Continue your ascent in the cave until you reach the Snowfoot itself. Remember, it’s weak to lightning and direct attacks to its face. Be mindful if you’re using a melee attacker, as this beast hits hard.
With the Snowfoot down, scour the area for the rest of the supplies: one to the right, one in front, and one to the left behind some wooden boxes.
Recover The Supplies
After you’ve gathered everything, head back to Wash at Northwall Campground. Once you report back, he generously rewards you with 30,000 Gold and high-level spoils.
With those side quests out of the way, return to Eir near the ice wall. Let her know you’re prepared to hunt down the Gagana now.
Head back up and go through the small passage. You will encounter the beast itself, the Snowfoot, and you need to defeat it.
The adventure will take you further east toward Gagana’s Grotto cave. Stock up on supplies since a tough battle lies ahead.
As you traverse the cave, you’ll encounter enemies and treasure chests; take your time and explore. Eventually, you’ll reach the chamber where the Gagana is supposed to appear.
However, Eir will inform you that the Gagana needs to be summoned through a ritual. Before figuring out how to do that, activate the Portcrystal for fast travel options later.
Light all the fire pits, then hunt down three Saurians in the vicinity. Once you’ve got them, place them on the pits for the ritual to be complete.
If you’re having trouble locating Saurians, search higher up or towards the back of the room. Once the offering is made, the Gagana will appear, ready for a fierce encounter.
We felt bad for the commission, so we just took all the supplies intact back to Wash at the Northwall Campground, because that’s where he is.
Thankfully, it seems that Wash is pretty generous, so he rewards the Arisen with 30,000 Gold and several high-level spoils.
Aid Eir In Her Search For A Gagana
With these two side quests done, we can head back to Eir’s location near the ice wall and speak to her. Tell her you’re ready to hunt down a Gagana.
The journey together will lead you further east toward Gagana’s Grotto cave. Here is a map showing its location. Make sure you are well prepared before entering, as you will be fighting the Gagana itself.
The road through the cave is pretty straightforward, with several enemies and chests along the way, so take your time to explore if you want. Eventually, you will reach an open area where the Gagana is supposed to be.
To your surprise, there is no Gagana. Eir then mentions that the beast needs to be summoned through a special ritual. Before you start figuring out what the ritual is, activate the Portcrystal first.
Find A Way To Summon A Gagana
If you head up the stairs, you will come across what looks like an altar with fire pits and a mural you can interact with. From this, you can conclude that you need to offer a sacrifice in the form of scaly beasts.
These scaly beasts are the Saurian enemies found around this area. First, interact with all the fire pits to light them. Then, defeat three Saurians, grab each one, and place them on the fire pits to complete the sacrifice.
As mentioned before, Saurians are found throughout this area. If you’re struggling to find them, try heading to the upper floor or checking the back of the room.
Once everything is in place, give it a moment, and you will see the Gagana arrive, ready for a fight.
