In the Soul Searching quest of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, you’re diving headfirst into an emotional storyline as you help Eir search for her master’s remains. It’s gripping and, honestly, a bit challenging to decipher at times since you’ll be balancing a lot of tasks that can easily trip you up if you’re not careful.
This quest can feel overwhelming if you don’t know where to begin, especially when it involves piecing together Norgan’s history and tracking down lost characters. Make sure to prepare yourself before diving in — check your inventory for essential items, like the Transcription Kit, and be aware of your surroundings to avoid wasting time.
Focus on the main storyline first, and keep your objectives clear. Carry items like Freki’s bone, which becomes crucial for locating Skoll. You’ll also want to get familiar with the surrounding areas as they hold key clues for your quest.
To kick things off, after your revelations about Eir’s true intentions, the next steps are guided by the hints from the Sage. Your focus shifts to finding Sir Rovall’s soul, a task that won’t be easy.
You’ll need to tackle various side quests to gather information and aids:
– Start with A Hound And His Bone
– Consult with historians like Polyeidus for Norgan’s history
– Complete A Howl In The Dark by tracking down the Blackdog
– Search for merchants in the Snowfield and beyond to keep progressing through the main storyline.
A Hound And His Bone initiates when you hear Ilsa’s lament about her missing pup. Speak to her to start this side quest and learn about Skoll’s disappearance.
Head back and chat with Ilsa; she’ll drop the news that one of her pups is missing. To kickstart your search, you’ll need to find evidence.
Freki will help track down Skoll, but she needs a scent to work with. You’ll be gathering clues to pinpoint his whereabouts.
The first person to consult is Skoll’s grandpa, Hal. Go talk to him to learn about Skoll’s favorite hangout. Get ready to head just northeast of the village; Hal will guide you there directly.
When you arrive at the location, keep your eyes peeled: look between the nearby rocks to find Skoll’s Snowdeer Bone. Pick it up; it’s essential for the quest.
Backtrack with the bone to Ilsa and present it to her. Then, open your inventory, hover over the bone, and give it to Freki to track Skoll’s position.
Freki will then guide you southwest to the cave where Skoll is resting, albeit injured.
You’ll need to carry Skoll back to the village . Don’t panic; he’s alive, just hurt. However, you can’t teleport or call for help — you must carry him yourself. You can put him down if you encounter any threats.
Take the bone back to the village and show it to Ilsa. After the conversation, open your inventory, hover over the bone, and select the option to Give to Freki.
Freki will then be able to track Skoll’s location, so all you have to do is follow her. She will lead you to a cave far southwest of the village.
Carry Skoll Back To The Village
Once you’re back with Ilsa, she’ll tend to Skoll’s injuries. As your reward, you’ll receive three Alpine Hare Meat and the Treatise on Lupinity.
After checking your inventory, be sure to use the Treatise on Lupinity right away. It grants you a vital Arisen-only specialization that reduces stamina costs while traveling with a dog.
Next, it’s time to get back to the main story. You’ll need to piece together Norgan’s past, so it’s off to Polyeidus, who’s been studying these exact events.
Open your inventory and use the Treatise on Lupinity to learn this Arisen-only specialization. When traveling with a hound, your stamina consumption is reduced.
Consult With Someone Who Knows Norgan’s History
Fast travel to the Sealed Study and find Polyeidus. When you explain your quest to resurrect Rovall, he’ll agree to help, although he’ll require more information.
Within the study, three slabs reveal parts of Norgan’s history. However, you need to find three more that are missing; Polyeidus suspects they’re beneath the Norgan Snowfield.
Take the Transcription Kit from Polyeidus — it’s necessary for documenting the slabs since you can’t carry them.
If you’re intrigued by Norgan’s past, you can chat with Polyeidus again for more lore once you’ve completed this portion of the quest.
A Howl In The Dark is your next side quest after you head back to the Northwall Campground. Inside the cave, you’ll meet up with Morgus, who needs your help retrieving a lost pendant.
This pendant isn’t just any ornament; it has personal significance, so Morgus emphasizes the importance of finding it.
If you want to learn more about Norgan’s lore, you can speak to Polyeidus again after this conversation to hear some additional history about the three slabs in the study.
For this task, make sure it’s nighttime before you set out. Head east through the Norgan Snowfield, and you can use the Spirit Compass to track down the beast responsible.
As you approach, be ready to face the Blackdog, a glowing hound that demands respect. Don’t attack until you’ve figured out how to counter its protective aura by dealing Holy damage.
During one of his missions in the Snowfield, he encountered a strange beast at night and lost his pendant. It’s not an ordinary pendant, which is why he is asking you to recover it for him.
Since you have the Spirit Compass, you will be able to locate it easily, as the compass will point you in its direction.
Track Down The Beast
Having a weapon such as the Heaven’s Key daggers or The Exalted sword, which carries a Holy enchantment, can turn the tide in this fight.
If you don’t have Holy weapons, bring a Mage pawn skilled in Empyrean or High Empyrean to dispel the aura. Once it’s gone, unleash your attacks on Blackdog as quickly as possible.
Defeat The Blackdog
The battle isn’t overly complex, but if you’re not careful, Blackdog can evade your strikes. Focus on doing as much damage as you can before the aura reactivates.
Once you defeat Blackdog, loot its body for the Fallen Pendant and retrace your steps back to Morgus.
Return the pendant to Morgus, who appreciates your effort. The pendant holds sentimental value, as it was crafted by his son. You’ll receive 30,000 Gold and a Syrupwort Leaf for your troubles.
Once the aura is gone, you will be able to damage Blackdog. Deal as much damage as possible before the aura returns, as you will need to dispel it again if you take too long.
That’s basically the whole fight. Blackdog is fast and can move around a lot, but it isn’t a major threat, as it has a regular health bar.
Return The Pendant To Morgus
After defeating Blackdog, loot its body to obtain the Fallen Pendant. With the pendant in hand, head back to the Northwall Campground.
Deliver the pendant to Morgus, who will be grateful. He explains that his son made it for him before departing, making it his only reminder of him.
Now, let’s wrap up with The Stranger In The Snowfield side quest. If you’ve completed The Truant Soldier quest, find Amos at either the Sealed Study or Northwall Campground.
The Stranger In The Snowfield Side Quest
Amos recounts how a stranger aided him in a tight spot, providing him with a Heatstone for warmth. He requests your help to track down this mysterious benefactor.
Amos tells you about a stranger who helped him when he was stranded. The stranger was kind enough to give him a Heatstone to keep him warm, but Amos never had a chance to thank him.
He asks the Arisen to find this stranger, although he doesn’t know his exact location, as the man moves from one campsite to another.
Amos is looking for Aymond , a merchant who often travels from campsite to campsite. Your map will lead you towards a cave called Frozen Ravine Hollow , where you’ll find Aymond engaged in combat.
Assist Aymond in defeating enemies before chatting with him about Amos. He remembers the stranded man and decides to head back to help him once he hears the tale.
Next, visit Amos again at the Northwall Campground. You’ll catch Aymond and Amos meeting up inside the cave. For your efforts, Amos will present you with 15,000 Gold.
Help Aymond defeat the enemies, then speak to him. The Arisen will tell him about Amos, the stranded soldier, and Aymond will recognize him. After learning Amos’s current location, Aymond will head there.
Next, visit Amos at the Northwall Campground and enter the cave. You will find Aymond and Amos catching up. As a token of appreciation, Amos will give you 15,000 Gold.
