You have finally reached the end of abyss lower levels, where the story takes a dark turn and betrayal leaves you isolated for the finale. This area is the most punishing part of the game, so expect tight combat encounters and complex paths that require careful planning to navigate. Don’t worry about getting lost, as the shortcut system here is designed to keep you moving back to safety efficiently.
I personally found the transition to the lower levels a bit overwhelming at first because you lose your team’s support right when the enemies get significantly tougher. It is very easy to waste all your ammo on the wrong targets, so prioritize burning the specific enemies that hold you back rather than trying to clear every room you walk into. Rely on your mobility to bypass hazards until you have the gear to fight back.
Before you commit to the descent, make sure you have fully upgraded your standard weapons and cleared any remaining side objectives in the upper tiers. Stocking up on as much health and ammunition as your inventory can hold is not optional, as the scarcity in this final zone will catch you off guard.

Reaching the Mainframe
Return to the Central Elevator when you are prepared to enter the Lower Levels, as this is the game’s final zone. Finish any outstanding exploration first because you cannot easily backtrack once you begin this sequence.
Board the elevator and select Lower Levels to trigger the next narrative cutscene.
Proceed along the hallway with the Captain and the Soldier until another cutscene plays.
Once the scene ends, you will receive the Unknown Signal objective; pass through the door located to your left.
Locate the Restoration Pod and Workbench in the next area to save your progress, then ride the elevator downward.
Move left and head toward the large blast door, which will automatically open as you approach.
Approach the massive block in front of you to trigger the next story event.
Activating the Release Protocols
After speaking with the mainframe, your priority is triggering two Release Protocols. Exit through the giant door, travel all the way left, then head up and enter the room on the right.
Use the nearby Safe Room to save, then pass through the left door.
You will enter a room with flooring reminiscent of previous Security Turret areas, so keep moving through the door directly in front of you.
Upon reaching the Energy Node Door, follow the cables back into the previous room to destroy all connected nodes.
This action initiates a Security Turret ambush where you must also eliminate four Security Pod Type C units.
Go back to the Energy Node Door, proceed through it, and use the lever to activate the first Protocol.
Exit the room, take the right-hand door, and continue forward until you find an elevator to descend.
Defeat the enemies below and head to the right to pick up the Utility Tunnels Key.
Return to the Safe Room, descend the stairs, and use the Utility Tunnels Key on the door you find there.
The tunnel contains multiple Husks and a Husk Brute near the exit, so try to maneuver past them quickly.
Once you climb the next set of stairs, you will see a door on the right leading to the next Release Protocol; however, loop behind the room first to unlock a shortcut back to the Mainframe.
Enter the door by the stairs, destroy the Energy Nodes as you did before, and clear the remaining enemies to open the path.
Step inside the room and use the lever to release the second Protocol.
Exit the room, use the left door, and pull the lever to unlock the forward path, then backtrack to the Mainframe to view the next scene.
Return to the elevator you initially used for this zone and ascend.
Save your progress at the Restoration Pod, then head back to the room where you triggered the Unknown Signal; the right-hand door is now accessible.
Obtaining Level 1 Access
Head right until you find a locked door to the north, which serves as a future shortcut.
Continue to the end of the path and take the elevator down.
Follow the metal walkway downward and then toward the right.
Proceed until a body falls from the ceiling in a hallway; you can scan this remains for lore.
Pass through the door on the right and follow the passage down to find another doorway on your left.
You will reach another metal walkway section, so travel to the far left and climb down the ladder.
Run right to collect the Level 1 Access card from the body, but be prepared for an ambush by Unformed Specimen A units.
These enemies are very durable against your current weaponry, so your best bet is to dash past them until you acquire a more effective tool.
Obtaining the Incinerator
Return to the passage where the first Unformed Specimen A dropped down and head north through the door.
Save your game at the Safe Room on the right, then use your Level 1 Access to unlock the left door.
Ignore the Unformed Specimens in this room, run up the stairs, and exit through the door on the upper floor to the right.
Follow the hallway and enter the room on the left.
Run to the end of the path, call the elevator, and ride it up to find a chest filled with Fragments.
After exiting the elevator, hug the lower wall while heading left to create a shortcut before you proceed through the door in the center.
The room will lock down upon your entry, forcing a fight against your first Head Crawlers.
Head Crawlers are mutated spiders that can revive dead Husks and perform dangerous grabs, so eliminate them quickly using Grenades or the Riot Breaker.
Exit via the left door and pick up the Incinerator located on the ground to the north.
The Incinerator is vital for burning Unformed Specimen-type enemies, though you should watch your ammo consumption closely.
Move downward to pull a lever that unlocks a shortcut to the previous zone.
Continue north until you hit a Safe Room, and make sure to restock your Incinerator Ammo before proceeding.
Obtaining the Neural Chamber Access
Leave the Safe Room and head right into an area swarming with Unformed Specimen B enemies, which you can either fight or bypass by taking the upper-left door.
Keep moving forward and take the first right turn, being careful of an Unformed Specimen B that will ambush you from the left.
Stick to the lower path as you head right, watching for another Unformed Specimen B patrolling the hallway.
Pass through the door to encounter a Parasitic Growth on the wall, which you must burn away using your Incinerator.
Before clearing the growth, head down and left to unlock a shortcut back to your last Safe Room in preparation for the boss.
Burn the Parasitic Growth, proceed inside, and continue forward to begin the boss encounter.
Failed Experiment Boss Fight
The Failed Experiment is highly vulnerable to fire, making your Incinerator the primary tool for victory, though the fight becomes chaotic as other enemies join in.
Expect several Unformed Specimens to enter the arena throughout the battle.
Locate the Explosive Containers around the arena and bait the boss into standing near them; shooting these deals massive damage.
This is manageable if you keep moving to avoid being cornered while focusing your fire on the boss.
Once the battle is over, head through the left door to collect the Neural Chamber Access.
