Before you venture into the immersive world of Enshrouded, spend a moment adjusting your server settings. This game allows you to modify enemy aggression, difficulty levels, and various survival mechanics. If you find yourself overwhelmed, dial back enemy aggressiveness or lower certain challenging aspects to create a more manageable experience. Remember, you can tweak your settings anytime as your skills improve.
Take some time to look over your server settings before you enter the world. With Enshrouded, you have the ability to modify a variety of things within the game, such as enemy aggression, difficulty, and how much grinding is involved. If you want an easier gameplay experience, you can lower the aggressiveness of the enemies and lower some of the more difficult survival features of the game. You may also set up your own difficult game by selecting settings that make it harder. World settings can be changed anytime later, so it is unnecessary to waste much time looking for perfect settings before playing.
Pro tip: Start with settings that cater to your preferred play style. If things feel too tough or resource gathering turns into a grind, don’t hesitate to adjust the settings.
A game-changer for your initial gameplay will be enabling the Automatic Loot feature. This setting is a must before you begin your adventure. With it on, as you chop down trees, mine ores, or collect other materials, everything gets scooped up automatically. Trust me, toggling this setting saves a ton of time and energy!
As you embark on your journey, don’t overlook the hidden treasures in the starting cave. Before you set off towards your first major location, take the time to explore this area thoroughly, as it holds crucial items to kick-start your survival efforts.
After waking up, head to the left to find the caves and be sure to bring a torch because it can get dark quickly!
Inside the cave:
- Examine the box to your right as you enter.
- Explore left for an opening where a stack of grenades can spawn periodically.
- Use a grenade to break through the rubble to uncover a chest containing the Hunter’s Ring, which boosts your stamina regeneration.
- Make your way out of the cave and proceed until you reach the water area.
- Illumine the left side of the water with your torch to discover another cave entrance.
- Inside this new cave, look for sparkly objects which may include the Ragged Shirt that provides both physical and magical resistance.

Build Your First Base Near the Starting Area
Once the game provides you with the basics of constructing a base, set up your initial base close to the starting village and Flame Altar. There is no need to choose a perfect spot right away. The starting area is the best location where you can practice crafting system, gather resources and use most of the game’s progression tools.
Your initial building should be small but functional. Instead of constructing a big house with all possible resources spent on it, make a small building with enough room for beds, storage and crafting stations. Such small structure may be later upgraded as you will gather more survivors and unlock new crafting stations.
Flame Altars and Fast Travel
The Flame Altars are integral to both the construction of bases and to exploration. Your starting base is built upon a Flame Altar and will depend on its radius for building more structures. Upgrading this altar will increase its radius and improve other mechanics of your progression. The Flame Altars serve as an effective fast travel hub too. When exploring, you can place additional altars around areas rich with resources or interesting locations that you plan to visit again. Initially, you can make use of only several altars, but you get access to more as you progress. Another way to fast travel is the Ancient Spires. After unlocking them, you will be able to travel to a high altitude location and glide down to the surroundings.
Tip for beginners: use temporary Flame Altars wisely. These altars can save you from a long journey while collecting resources or going to a location. If you don’t need an altar anymore, you can disable it – the procedure will take about 30 seconds.
Learn How the Shroud Works
The Shroud is one of Enshrouded’s defining mechanics. They are filled with useful items and enemies that you can use or encounter on your path towards advancement. Nevertheless, there is a time limit attached to these areas as soon as you enter the Shroud area – the countdown is displayed at the top of the screen, and your character will die when the time limit runs out.
Initially, the time spent in the Shroud area is limited, but upgrading your Flame and progressing in the game may expand the amount of time spent there.
Consider each Shroud exploration journey as a trip with a deadline.
- Have your goal defined before entering the Shroud.
- Gather resources and loot quickly.
- Pay attention to the timer, not counting on the availability of lots of time.
- Plan an exit point beforehand in case you venture into a dangerous area.
- Try to find a way out of the Shroud area in case you need to leave.
Gather Resources With a Purpose
Collecting materials is crucial, but doing so without an idea may result in lost time and your inventory full of materials you don’t need at the moment. Note the materials used in your next crafting recipes and survivor quests. Different places feature different materials, so knowing which locations provide certain resources is critical for your progress in the game.
Plant Fiber is especially helpful to gather as it is needed in string and many crafting recipes. If you often lack Plant Fiber, try to search for places where there are lots of crops and vegetation. Woodgard, the village near an Ancient Spire is one of such locations. This location features vegetation which makes it an appropriate place to collect Plant Fiber. In addition, there is a church with undead enemies, lootable glowing coffins and a chest down the stairs. Try to set up a fast travel point next to the place where you found a lot of useful resources.
Explore Carefully and Search for Loot
Enshrouded encourages curiosity. Not just chests offer something to discover; abandoned buildings, tombstones, heaps of trash, underground passages, and other environmental features can hide valuable objects.
Inspect areas that seem suspicious, examine buildings, and find possible alternative ways to get through caves and ruins. You will encounter areas which provide experience and skills, thus offering some exploration bonuses in addition to the items you gather. But be careful; not all seemingly abandoned areas are safe to explore.
