My Hero Academia United Survival Dumbbell Training Guide

If you want to increase your characters’ stats and Battle Power in My Hero Academia: United Survival, Dumbbell Training is one of the easiest ways to get a noticeable boost.

However, there is one important mechanic you should understand before you start spending your best dumbbells. If you use the strongest dumbbells too early, you can actually lose some of the efficiency you could have gotten from your weaker ones.

In this guide, I’ll explain how Dumbbell Training works, what the yellow training bar means, when you should switch between dumbbell types, and when it actually makes sense to ignore the efficient strategy and simply go for more BP.

The 4 Types of Dumbbells

There are four different dumbbell types available for training:

  • Light Dumbbell
  • Average Dumbbell
  • Heavy Dumbbell
  • Ultra Dumbbell

Each type provides a different amount of Training Amount.

The stronger the dumbbell, the further it can push your Training Amount. However, that doesn’t automatically mean you should always use the strongest dumbbell you have.

This is where the yellow bar becomes important.

Watch the Yellow Training Bar

At the top of the Dumbbell Training screen, you’ll see your Training Amount.

You’ll also see a yellow section/bar that shows how far you can train before your stat gains become less efficient.

Once you pass that yellow bar, you can still gain stats from your dumbbells, but you’re getting less value from them.

This means you generally don’t want to blindly throw your Heavy or Ultra Dumbbells into your character from the beginning.

Instead, you want to use each dumbbell type until you reach its efficient training limit and then move to the next one.

A simple example would be:

Light → reach yellow bar → Average → reach yellow bar → Heavy → reach yellow bar → Ultra

This approach allows you to get better overall value from your dumbbells instead of wasting the efficiency of the weaker ones.

How Do You Increase the Yellow Training Bar?

There are three main ways to increase your training limit.

1. Use a Stronger Dumbbell

Using a stronger type of dumbbell pushes your Training Amount further.

So don’t think of Heavy and Ultra Dumbbells as simply being “better” versions of Light and Average Dumbbells.

They also serve another purpose: they allow you to push your training threshold further when the weaker dumbbells are no longer providing efficient gains.

This is why saving your stronger dumbbells for the right moment can be useful.

2. Increase Your Player Level

Your Player Level also affects the training threshold.

As you increase your Player Level, the yellow training limit for the different dumbbell types increases as well.

This means that as you progress through the game, you’ll gradually be able to get more value from your dumbbells.

So if you’re wondering why the same dumbbell seems to give you different value later in the game, your Player Level is one of the things to keep in mind.

3. Increase Your Character’s Rarity Level

Your character’s rarity level also increases the training limit.

As your character becomes rarer, you’ll be able to push the training threshold further, giving you more room to benefit from Dumbbell Training.

Because of this, it can sometimes be worth waiting until your character has progressed further before using a large number of your best dumbbells.

The Important Dumbbell Training Strategy

This is the main thing I want you to remember:

Don’t immediately spam your Heavy and Ultra Dumbbells.

Yes, using your strongest dumbbells right away will give you a nice immediate BP increase. If you’re looking at your stats, you’ll definitely notice the difference.

But there’s a downside.

When you use your strongest dumbbells too early, you push your Training Amount much further. This can cause you to reach the yellow threshold for the weaker dumbbells as well.

That means you may end up losing some of the efficient value that you could have gotten from your Light and Average Dumbbells.

For long-term resource efficiency, I recommend using them in this order:

Light → Average → Heavy → Ultra

Start with your weaker dumbbells and stop once you’ve reached their efficient training limit.

Then move to the next type.

This way, you’re getting as much value as possible from the easier-to-obtain dumbbells before spending your more valuable ones.

When Should You Ignore This Strategy?

Now, there is an important exception.

If you’re stuck on content and you need more power right now, forget about efficiency.

Seriously.

If using a Heavy or Ultra Dumbbell gives you the extra BP you need to clear an important stage, event, or progression wall, then use it.

Getting another 10–20k BP when you desperately need it can be much more valuable than saving a few dumbbells for later.

The Light → Average → Heavy → Ultra strategy is mainly about long-term resource efficiency.

If you’re already close to clearing an important piece of content, there’s no reason to hold yourself back just because you want to perfectly optimize your dumbbells.

Best Dumbbell Order

For a quick reference, here’s the order I recommend:

Order Dumbbell What to Do
1 Light Use first until you reach the efficient limit
2 Average Switch once Light is no longer efficient
3 Heavy Use after Average reaches its limit
4 Ultra Save for the final stage of training

The exact amount you can get from each type will depend on your Player Level and your character’s rarity level, so don’t worry if your numbers don’t match someone else’s.

Dumbbell Training is a simple system, but understanding the yellow training bar can save you a surprising amount of resources over time.

If you’re playing for long-term progression, I recommend sticking with:

Light → Average → Heavy → Ultra

Use the weaker dumbbells while they’re still giving you efficient gains, then move up to the stronger ones as your training threshold increases.

At the same time, don’t take the efficiency strategy too seriously if you’re stuck. Sometimes you simply need more BP to progress, and that’s a perfectly good reason to use your Heavy or Ultra Dumbbells early.

For me, the best approach is to optimize when you can, but don’t sacrifice actual progression just to save a few resources. If a stronger dumbbell gets you past a difficult stage or unlocks important content, use it and keep moving forward.
