TV Archive Completion Guide – Shelf Organization

Organize 3,180 tapes in the TV Archive efficiently with this easy-to-follow guide.

Sorting through the TV Archive means tackling an impressive number of over 3,180 videotapes divided into 20 categories and 318 shelf rows. This can feel overwhelming at first, but with a clear plan, you’ll get through it faster than you think.

While you sort through the archival tapes, you’ll start recognizing which ones are easy to miss and may wonder where to put them. Knowing the correct shelf positions not only helps clear the clutter but also unlocks achievements, making it feel well worth your effort.

Before diving in, familiarize yourself with the layout of the shelves and the categories. Understanding this structure will save you a lot of searching later. Trust me, it’s also a good idea to have a notepad handy to jot down any notes on where you’ve found specific tapes.

Every tape has a designated shelf, and knowing where to place each one is key to making the process smooth. As you discover the complete shelf order, you’ll eliminate the need for constant searching, which can be a real time sink. Plus, placing the tapes correctly will unlock various achievements.

The quickest way to find the right shelf for a tape is to use Ctrl+F to search for its exact title in your list. The section of the shelves listed next to the title tells you where it belongs, and the number preceding it tells you the exact spot on that shelf. It’s simple and speeds up the organization process tremendously.

How the Archive Works?

Every category within the archive has its own numbered shelf, making it easier to organize tapes by genre or show.

Shelves are set up with grouped bays containing 3 rows each. Each row corresponds to a title, and within each row are 10 copies of that title, arranged in volume order.

Completing an entire row gives you 1 skill point, which can be used in the skill tree to improve your sorting abilities. Once all tapes are organized, the final door will open, rewarding your efforts.

The skill points are useful for enhancing your sorting ability, so make sure to keep track of your progress.

No-Skill Mode Tips

No-Skill Mode presents a unique challenge since it lacks the auto-highlight and collect features. You’ll need to actively search for each tape yourself.

Before starting your sorting adventure, walk around the archive to distribute the large piles of tapes more evenly.

To do this, just stand near a pile and press G to drop the tapes. This will spread them across the floor, allowing you to easily spot the tape covers.

While shuffling around, you might encounter complete sets of tapes, such as different parts of the same movie or several seasons of a series. When you spot these, make sure to grab them and place them onto their appropriate shelves.

Though this method may seem a bit slower at first, it saves a lot of time later on by making tapes much easier to find.

Stay organized, and remember: the more you sort, the more efficient you’ll become.
