Valor Mortis is a soulslike title where you play as William, one of Napoleon’s soldiers. The entire battlefield is full of grotesque soldiers who are neither dead nor alive, but you’ve got a lead. Lucjan has mentioned that there are two survivors to find this chapter, and your main goal is to track them down.
Stepping into this chapter can be quite the challenge, especially with deformed enemies lurking around every corner. You might find yourself wasting resources like ammo or fire spells if you’re not careful about how you engage in battles. Keep on the lookout for traps and enemies that can easily sideline your progress!
Before diving into the details, make sure to have your fire spells ready and equip your pistol as soon as you can—trust me, the range makes many fights way easier.

After talking with Lucjan, you’ll have to head straight ahead. There’s an item at the edge of the area, but be wary of the soldier on your right hiding behind the carriage.
Keep progressing through the area until you spot a wooden ledge. You’ll need to jump onto this ledge to proceed. Turn right on the ledge, and you’ll find a pole to extend your jump.
Shortly ahead on the path, you’ll encounter a grenadier. These twisted foes have one claw for a hand, hurl bombs at you from afar, and can leap long distances. It can be tricky to fight them with your saber.
Using your fire hand here is effective—you can ignite their bomb bucket, causing it to explode and deal serious damage. After that, they’ll switch to melee attacks, so finish off any remaining HP swiftly with your weapon.
Shortly ahead, you’ll find a trapped carriage. Someone is alive inside, asking you to seek their companions or orders heading to the nearby caves. This activates the An Unheard Farewell side quest.
Look for a lantern ahead that leads to a damaged large bridge. You can jump over various platforms to reach the bottom.
You’ll find a lantern ahead, leading to a devastated large bridge. You can jump over the platforms to get to the bottom.
As you jump on the wooden planks through the broken bridge, you’ll arrive in a carriage. It’s caught in the chaos, but inside you’ll find the pistol .
With the pistol, you can hit nephtoglobin weak points. Shoot those red glowing orbs to clear nearby corruption, opening new pathways.
Jump over the last few platforms and continue moving. Use the pistol for more effective combat against distant enemies.
As you progress, you’ll come across a lantern near a lift. However, this lift is damaged by corruption, and you’ll need to find and eliminate the nephoglobin weak point here.
Turn around to the wooden docks. You’ll find a boat and a plank leading to a ledge. Continue down this path until you can see the nephoglobin weak point clearly.
Take the lift and proceed through the caves. You’ll face slime-like enemies with multiple heads. They take less damage from your saber, so use fire to eliminate them quickly.
Keep navigating through the caves and wooden paths until you reach another lift. This one’s corruption is linked to two nephoglobin weak points. Destroy both to fix the elevator. Remember to do this to create a shortcut back for the side quest, not for main quest progression.
Keep going through the caves and the wooden platforms until you reach another lift. This one’s corruption is linked to two nephtoglobin weak points. There’s one weak point on each side of the corruption. Destroy them both, and that will fix the elevator. Note that you need to fix the elevator to create a shortcut back to the lantern and for the side quest, not to progress the main quest.
Take the elevator you’ve just fixed. While heading down, you’ll spot a ledge you can jump to before the elevator hits the bottom.
Jump onto this ledge to find the missing soldiers before the elevator reaches the bottom.
Once you reach this new area, a powerful duelist enemy awaits. Defeat them and obtain the orders from near the chest. Use the ladder beside the chest afterward.
After descending, you’ll find a wooden path attached to a cliff. You can also spot a lantern to return to the trapped carriage, where you can deliver the orders. You’ll have a choice to tell the truth or lie about what you found. Regardless, you’ll gain an Amber and complete the quest.
To get back on track, head towards the second elevator you found earlier, which was corrupted with two nephoglobin weak points. There’s a wooden path attached to the cliff here.
Progressing Through The Valley
Continuing along the path brings you near the large broken bridge. Here, you’ll find a carriage with a nephoglobin weak spot. There’s also a nearby ladder that can be kicked down to unlock a shortcut to one of the earlier activated lanterns.
After destroying the weak spot on the carriage, move forward to find another weak spot that’s linked to corruption on the destroyed bridge. Hitting this opens a new path deeper into the valley.
Crossing the bridge will trigger a wave of enemies. Once you’re on the other side, find a lantern; one path leads to an area filled with toxic green gas—avoid that for now.
The alternative path is filled with bomb barrels and enemies—this is the route you’ll want to take. Use your pistol to ignite the barrels, causing huge damage to the foes.
There’s a carriage with a weak spot in this area. Shoot it, and watch the cart crash into a wooden wall.
You can jump over the cart to reach the next section. Be careful; the area is littered with bomb barrels, and a grenadier lurks here.
Defeating grenadiers is much easier with a pistol. Shoot their bomb bucket for damage, or target the nephtoglobin bubble on their crab arm to destroy it.
You can then jump over the cart to reach the next section. However, be careful as the next area is full of bomb barrels, and there’s a grenadier here.
Note that defeating grenadiers with a pistol is much easier. You can shoot their bomb bucket to make it explode and deal damage, and you can also damage the nephtoglobin bubble on their crab arm to destroy it.
Here, you’ll find white material blocking the path that can be burned, but there are also explosive barrels nearby. Use your pistol rather than fire to clear the way.
There’ll be a moment where you need to crouch to pass under a tree trunk. Afterward, you’ll encounter a Howler enemy. More will appear ahead, but keep going till you reach the next lantern.
Shortly ahead, you’ll find a half-broken wooden gate. William will comment on needing something to destroy it.
There’s an open path nearby; first, however, head back from the broken gate. You’ll discover a path up to a cliff, with a cannon available to clear enemies on the open path near the lantern.
Progress through the army camp until you spot a nearby cannon. Use it to demolish the gate. Go past the gate and follow the path until you reach the quarry.
Upon arrival at the quarry, locate a switch next to the lantern. Activate it to lower a crate; you’ll need to be quick to jump on before it starts going back up.
From here, navigate upwards. There will be hanging hooks from cranes emitting a faint blue light; ignore these for now.
As you progress, you’ll encounter an axe-wielding enemy guarding a rope.
Defeat the enemy and use the rope to reach the other side of the quarry.
After descending from the rope, you’ll notice a ladder on your left and an open path to greenery on your right. Head to the right.
This will enable you to exit the area and enter a new region with a lantern where you can rest. Ahead, a yellow fog wall awaits.
After dropping from the rope, you’ll find a ladder to your left and a path to greenery on your right. Here, you have to go right.
This will allow you to leave the area and enter another region. You’ll find a lantern here where you can rest. There will be a yellow fog wall shortly ahead.
